A transformative step towards a low-carbon economy, ITU News Magazine 2011
Tackling climate change is not only a huge challenge for the world — it is also a significant opportunity. The information and communication technology (ICT) sector can make an immense contribution to low-carbon development through the deployment of innovative products and services that provide the same or better service while significantly reducing carbon emissions. The tremendous opportunity of using ICT to mitigate climate change needs to be better heard, understood and supported by those who can make a difference. We need to secure a step change in the climate debate — from reducing problems to delivering solutions. Only then can we hope to fully tap into the potential of ICT to enable the transition to a low-carbon and energy-efficient future.
