From 14 November to 17 November, the ITU Telecom World was held in Bangkok, Thailand. It was an excellent opportunity for GeSI to communicate about the ICT impact on the Sustainable Development Goals.

During the panel debate “Making money from meeting the SDGs? », Luis Neves, the GeSI Chairman, was invited to discuss the results of the #SystemTransformation report; GeSI members representatives Microsoft, Telenor and Vimpelcom were also among the panelists.

The report, based on the findings of the GeSI SMART series and released in June of this year, demonstrates how ICT can have a decisive impact for the SDG achievement. Digital solutions can contribute to every single one of the 17 SDGs and to over half of the 169 related targets. This means that in addition to the contribution to environment preservation through emissions reduction and improved resource management, technology can have a key role in enhancing people’s quality of life and creating new growth opportunities. As Luis Neves said, “We will make money and we will make society better”.
