Thought leaders and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) stakeholders gathered at a side event at COP20 in Lima to discuss the critical role of ICT in tackling climate change. Sectors like transportation or power are already deploying ICT-based solutions to reduce energy use, cut greenhouse gas emissions and become more resilient to the effects of climate change.
The event discussed the role of governments in supporting ICT solutions against climate change, in preparation to the climate talks to be held in 2015 at the COP21 in Paris.
This event was also the opportunity to showcase the two winners of the 2014 Momentum for Change: ICT Solutions Lighthouse Activity
- Community-Based Flood Early-Warning System | India: Protecting people from floods using ICT solutions.
- SmartSense | India, Malaysia: Reducing energy consumption in real time.
Representatives from both projects shared the lessons learned in their efforts to address climate change.
The Momentum for Change programme is implemented in partnership with GeSI. For further information about the programme, please visit the dedicated website.
An overview of the two projects selected as Lighthouse Activities for the ICT pillar is available in this video.
