Few days after the Paris Agremment has entered into force, COP22, the COP of action, is starting in Marrakesh today and will last until Friday 18 November. During those days, GeSI will be active showing ICTenabled solutions to tackle climate change and make the vision brought by the Paris Agreement a reality.

You'll be able to follow GeSI on two major events:

  • The Low-Emissions Solution Conference (14 November): This conference organised during COP22 will be a large-scale technical-solutions event organized for country delegations, placing innovative technological solutions at the heart of the meeting. The intention is that the Solutions Conference at COP22, part of the Global Climate Action, will be the first of a series of similar annual events at future COPs.
  • Momentum for Change: ICT SOlutions (17 November): This event organized by the UN Climate Change secretariat will feature a roundtable discussion by on the enabling role of ICT in tackling climate change, key findings of the #SystemTransformation report, the role of ICT in achieving the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the need for joint action. According to the #SystemTransformation report released earlier this year by the Global e-Sustainability Initiative and Accenture, ICT solutions could drive market transformation for renewables and cut carbon emissions by 20% by 2030. The report also shows that the ICT sector can play a vital role in helping achieve the objectives of the 17 SDGs by 2030. The event also features a showcasing segment with representatives from the five 2016 Momentum for Change: ICT Solutions Lighthouse Activity winners. Activity representatives will share best practices and lessons learned in their efforts to address climate change.
