The target year for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals is barely a decade away. A significant progress acceleration will be needed if we are to meet the Goals. The digital technologies and applications are playing a critical role in the achievement of the SDGs.

During the CONNECT University session on "ICT Transformation – Steering the impact of digital solutions on the SDGs" Mr Luis Neves, GeSI Managing Director, will provide an overview of the digital contributions on climate change and the SDGs to date. A preview of the upcoming research and how it will look at the role and expected impact of emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, 5G, and blockchain will also be presented.

Research carried out by the Global Enabling Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) demonstrates that the application of digital technologies will be indispensable for success. An industry organization grouping 20+ of the world’s leading digital and telecom companies, GeSI has produced since 2008 extensive research on the role of ICT in helping to tackle climate change, assessing its enabling potential (the ways in which the adoption of digital technologies can support other sectors in reducing their own footprint and resource consumption). More information can be found in the study of interest conducted by GeSI.

Harnessing the benefits of advanced technologies is essential - join us live in discussing the positive and negative impacts of the roll-out of digital technologies, the potential barriers to uptake, and the measures needed to address them.
