The GeSI study examines the link between broadband usage and energy reduction in regard to simple and convenient online activities

The GeSI study examines the link between broadband usage and energy reduction in regard to simple and convenient online activities such as telecommuting, using the Internet as a primary news source, online banking, e-commerce and downloading music. Entitled “Measuring the Energy Reduction Impact of Selected Broadband-Enabled Activities Within Households”, GeSI commissioned the Yankee Group and the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) to conduct the study with the support of GeSI members BT, Deutsche Telekom, Ericsson and Verizon. The findings demonstrate how the increased use of activities like teleworking can reduce carbon emissions by millions of metric tons and deliver significant energy savings.
