  • Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB)

The mission of the Digital with Purpose Movement is to catalyse collective action. It is not about repackaging existing efforts or restating previously declared intentions - it is a race to the top. Members share an ambition to create business value through radically accelerating the enabling power of digital technology for the SDGs whilst minimising negative externalities that may arise.

The launch event will begin on 31st May with a keynote address by the Portuguese Presidency of the EU represented by the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of the Economy, Mr. Pedro Siza Vieira. This will be followed by two panel discussions:

1. “Digital Democracy for public good: Data security and privacy, who’s in control, who decides?”
2. “Climate Change: How do we accelerate the role of technology and what impact should we expect?”

The day will end with a closing ceremony address by André de Aragão Azevedo, Secretary of State for the Digital Transition for Portugal. This event is taking place within the framework of the European Union Digital Assembly, a high-level Ministerial Conference focused on the adoption of the Lisbon Declaration – Digital Democracy with a Purpose and will be live-streamed. As a result, GeSI will be giving special attention to the roles played by both the private and public sector, sharing common ground and discussing the impact new technology and innovation will have on the health of society and our planet.
