The need for a positive transformative change in the way we reach the UN SDG´s (Sustainability Develpoment Goals) is alarmingly clear. As the global temperature is set to rise up to 1.5 degrees, we must input these changes and create a sustainable future. ln the latest ITU article about Green digital action and COP28, GeSI CEO, Luis Neves, gives insight on a solution that would deliver on the human needs and remain sustainable for future generations, “An exponential uptake of new smart solutions can deliver on human needs in ways that are magnitudes more resource- and cost-efficient compared with what we have today.”
Leaders, Innovators, Business, and Governments have been called upon by United-Nations Secretary General António Guterres to come up with credible climate action and practical solutions towards the overwhelming problem with fossil fuels. “All of this action must be global. It must be immediate. And it must start with the polluted heart of the climate crisis: the fossil fuel industry. Let’s face facts. The problem is not simply fossil fuel emissions. It’s fossil fuels — period.” COP28 will serve as a discussion ground for the solutions and actions towards the climate crisis.
COP28 will also feature the Green Digital Action deliver progress to bring organizations to carbon neutrality and put the ICT industry as a collaborating force in the battle to get to net zero carbon emissions. However Green Digital Action needs to go beyond cutting down emissions, the problems with the growth of E-waste and the manner that resources are consumed need to be addressed to sustain our future on Earth.
COP28 will be held this winter from 30 Nov 2023 – 12 Dec 2023 in Dubai, UAE. You can sign up to the COP28 newsletter to stay informed on the outcomes from the event. COP28 Newsletter
