The campaign for this event is ongoing, from numerous retailers, local authorities, and stakeholders who already signed up to help tackle e-waste. E-waste is a severe environmental problem especially as the rise of new technologies leave old electronics in landfills and dumps. Circular economy programs need to be put in place to actively reuse parts of old electronics. As stated by the Sustainability Development Goals, it is necessary to encourage sustainable e-waste practices such as removing market distortions, phasing out harmful subsidies, and taking into account the specific needs of developing countries and minimizing the impacts on their development in a manner that protects their affected communities.
